Come-back kids upset the #1 seed...

Due to the request of my father-in-law I must break down last night's epic flag football battle. And since we received so many comments on the last flag football post I thought we should probably do another.

As I mentioned in the previous post, last night we play #1 Team Kinetico II. We played them our last regular season game and lost by a touchdown. They are a team with swagger, they run great routes from the line, the have speed at WR, and there QB is very effective with his arm and legs. We on the other hand were the #4 seed.

We won the coin toss to start the game, deferred the ball to the second half and we were underway.

The opening drive was impressive for Team Kinetico, I think it took them maybe 4-5 plays to drive down and take a 7-0 lead. Immediately I saw fear settle into the eyes of some of our players. I tried to keep their spirits high, I knew it was going to be an offensive battle (a true Big 12 game). Even though we typically play more of a west coast offense, where we try to slowly work our way up the field.

After a couple of short screen passes and a QB scramble, I rolled right and saw Ryan C. running a post pattern on the opposite side of the field, and BAM just like that 7-7. So at this point maybe 5 minutes of the running clock have ticked off.

Then again we both scored, now its 14-14. With only a few minutes left they found the endzone. By the time we got the ball we couldn't do anything with it. So we went into halftime down 14-20.

We got the ball to start the half, but the other team put our offense driving into the wind, which is pretty big factor here in the 'Burg. After the first play of the second half I took a razor sharp, Shawn Bradley like elbow to the nose, immediately causing my nose to bleed. I asked the male ref if he had a tampon I could use to shove up by nose, but he was fresh out. It bled for basically the entire second half.

Our first drive in the second half was classic "Ryan's Boys" football. We marched up the field, frustrating the tar out of Team Kinetico. We scored on a short dumb to Josh. Unfortunately we missed our extra point (which we rarely do) so the scored was tied at 20-20.

They came right back shattering all the momentum we had taking the lead 27-20. We had trouble playing D on these guys. They did a great job of mixing it up, streaking line man, running effective outs to the center, and the QB ran for a number of their yards.

But again, we managed to score keeping our hope afloat. We ran our special play which we have been getting away from more, now that teams are picking up on it. The play is called Harlene. Many of your will remember when John Beck found J. Harlene in the endzone on his knees on the opposite side of the field to beat Utah in 2007 on the very last play of the game. Well the is precisely what we do, we pull everyone right, and we had R Nye float left. He was wide open, as I was running away from him on the other side of the field getting pressure I threw off my back foot. It hit him in the finger tips just outside of his reach. This was huge because now we are down 26-27 and there is only 2:14 left in the game.

Again I could see the despair and fear settle into the eyes of some of our teammates. I constantly tried to keep the fire burning and the motivation on the line, because lets be frank there was a lot on the line. The previous two years my team has lost in the semi-finals. I was not about to end my flag football, historic career in the semi's for a third straight year.

So, with 2:24 left they ran a decent yardage out to a WR and got a quick first down. Then the QB rushed and Ryan C pulled his flags right near the 1st down line, the ref made a horrible spot and gave them the first down, which actually turned out in our favor. The next three plays were incompletion's. I thought they had horrible clock management at this point, stopping the clock for us. Then it was fourth down with 1 minute left. We made the stop.

So, its our ball 50 seconds left. We huddle up, I tell the receivers to streak so I can run for a good chunk of yardage, a first down and get out of bounds. We still have one time out, FYI. So on our next play I was looking to hit a receiver on a post since the defense was forcing us inside. I rolled left, bought a good amount of time, then I saw Ryan had a half step on his man, straight in front of me. By this time we were about on the 50 yard line. I said what the heck, I threw a, not a dart, but some decent velocity to him just a finger above the DB and BAM TOUCHDOWN! Again I over threw Ryan on the extra point so now we were up 32 - 27 with 14 seconds left.

On defense we went to prevent I played a deep safety and came up with the interception. The game was over, the run to the finals continues, tonight. Stay tuned.

Then for the first time in the game we managed to get a turnover on downs.

Flag Football Supporters Unite...

(Stole that from the Blazers). Just wanted our beloved family and friends to know we have moved onto the Semi-finals of the BYUI flag football intramural tournament. What was once over 70 teams is now down to four.

The game: Wednesday October 29, 2008 at 7:45pm on the Upper fields, justs a rocks throw down the hill from the temple. We face, Team Kinetico II. Earlier this season we lost a heart-breaker by a touchdown to these fella's. We were short handed and played poorly overall. I feel very good about our chances.

We are the #4 seed, they are the #1 seed. Should your schedule permit, come support us. The following example will demonstrate the high level of importance of this game. Whitney was chosen to be the President of the broadcasting society for the entire school this semester. She organized a meeting for wednesday at 8pm.......'um yeah she will be skipping that because she knows exactly where her priorities are. Intramural's come before all career goals and obligations in this family.

So what is your excuse? Or will we see you at the game?

Win or go home.

NBA begins...

For anyone who is near the Staples center in LA go catch Portland coming to town for the season opener. For the rest of you just turn into TNT at 8:pm (MST).

ESPN and the rest of the media world have already started the Bynum/Oden comparisons. The are both exactly the same height and weight, according to ESPN (7' and 285 lbs).

Just wanted to let everyone know. Make sure and wear your red and black. Also friday they will be on ESPN as the trick or treater's come to your door.

After a very long, busy, stressful day, that was capped off by a bad BYU loss, then cap that with a bad flag football loss. I was completely down, angry, mad, upset, etc etc.

Then I found this, and it helped. I think it will do the same to you. Especially if you know my cousin Jake Moorhead. I can't wait to see more of this from Jake in the future.

The Secret's Out...Adge is 30!!!

Most who are readers of this blog are familiar with my eldest sister Adrienne. Many, if not most, refer to her as "Adge." Probably one of the greatest nicknames in nickname history. For those of you who are not so familiar with this legend, let me tell you my top ten things about Adge.

But first Adge just a few words of advice...

Adge Bjork Top Ten Reasons why she is the Bomb.com:

10. She is the only one from our wedding who got us a "How to budget" instructional CD that has made a huge impact on the finances of C2.

9. She is the only one under the direct Carlile umbrella to have children, making me an uncle. She has three really cool girls that are about the cutest things you have ever seen. And if you are coming from a Southwest hub city, they will start flying there (to MN) come March 2009.


8. She is a great advice giver/consoler to her favorite brother and his wife. She is the one that is close enough to us in age, but still wise enough to counsel us young rebellious types. Some know that Whit and I had a miscarriage this summer. Adge was the one that was our nurse that was only one phone call away and would drop whatever she was doing to help us, the uneducated in the pregnancy ways of life. It was a difficult experience to bear, but Adge among others pulled us through it.

7. She is the only one in the United States who matches the love for cheese that I have. We are not talking about just any cheese, only the finest. Which makes the fact that she gave it up for a year for Jocy even more amazing.

6. Her support and love for cowboys. She is just blessed with an understanding and knowing that sometimes cowboys just need to be cowboys. As a good friend of mine and Steve's once said, "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway." - John Wayne


5. Her love for tennis. If you haven't seen the Bjork doubles team, you really haven't seen tennis at all. I feel like there is a part of Adge inside of Steve, when he plays tennis. There is a level of competition that comes out that you don't often see in Adge. (This can also be seen in heated Adge vs. Steve Ping Pong battles). The amazing part is she juggles Jocy and the twins while doing it.

4. Her ability to make everyone feel good and doesn't worry about her self much mentality. She always make me feel like I am the smartest, buffest, best salesman, most successful brother that she has ever had. I am pretty sure its not just me, that she does this to others as well.

3. Her famous glass of ice water that sits next to the fridge. Throughout my 24 years of infinite wisdom I have continually had the great water debate. How do you get your water. Of course you must have Brita, number one. But then what, do you take all the work to go get a glass of water, then re-fill the Brita? Do you fill up a bunch of water bottles? Do you just drink straight out of the Brita filter pitcher? Well Adge's solution is just fill up a glass and put it next to the fridge. I for one love staying with Adge because then the glass is all ready for my indulgence. Now that you know my secret don't steal it, Adge obviously knows its me, so don't steal my thunder.

2. That she chose Steve. A brother that I can get out the shot guns with and go have a hay day. A brother I have that encourages me to pursue my dreams of a ranch with horses, among other toys and animals (as well as encouragement from Abs and Savy). A man of success in all aspects of the word, including physically. Which begs the question, Will Steve ever grow out the 'stache now that he is at Corporate?

1. Because she is half sister, half mom to me. Now don't take this the wrong way. She has always just been someone who has always been there for me. From the sweetest packages on the mish, to great meals when we go visit, to the occasional phone call where we just catch up on things.

Well Adge, happy 30th. Now Les and Mere have something to look forward to when they turn 30. Party hard, like MN has never seen!

Whit has been training for her new job that she recently was offered by Channel 3 a CBS affiliate

I have been training for google certification for a sales job with Semvirnment (Search Engine Management)

We stayed at the Winn-ers for General Conference

Doing our part to volunteer for Proposition 8 in CA

I have also been spending 5-10 hours/week searching for other career opportunities.

And lastly, getting bloody, just being a 24 year old, still thinking he is 17

Staying True

Last week when the Beavs played USC, admittedly I doubted the Beavs. But nonetheless I still believed. Anything is impossible in Beaver Nation. Again this week, no one is picking the Beavs, again I am the only one. Click here to see my picks for the game, and my co-authors (Driod). For the record, Les and Trev are also picking Utah. Ugh are they serious? Who do you think will win tonight's match up on Versus???

Yellowstone, A Priceless Trip - literally

This past week weekend was a memorable one no doubt. Driod, the Winter's, the Winn's, and C2 headed to what some call the most magnificent place on earth, Yellowstone National Park. We happened to go on "Free National Park Day" which was one of the many blessings we received on this trip.

Highlights:
- Trevor walking down a log on the surface of the lake and violently falling in.
- Roasted Starburst.
- All of the food in general.
- The closeness of our Elk and Bison encounters.
- The campsite, and the cost of the campsite
- Swimming in the freezing water at Firehole (Trev and Ev)
- The views and fresh mountain air
- Canoing on Jenny Lake
- No cell phone service

Lowlights:
- No Bear sighting
- No Steve Bjork
- Too short of a trip (3 day minimum)
- Lack of campsite photo's
- Trevor forgetting the battery to his camera
- Old Faithful (once you do it once, it is just kind of a let down the next time)
- No college football

This trip is one never to be forgotten.

End of Summer Fun

Although summer ended a while ago, here are some pics of what we did the last 2 weeks of the summer.


We had the Carlile Family Round-Up- Family Reunion. It was a lot of fun to relax and have fun with the whole gang. The pictures really are worth a thousand words...





After the five day reunion in Sunriver, we drove straight to Utah where we saw my brother, Derek, who is attending Utah State. He is doing great and loves it there! Before we know it he will be flying us all over the country!




The next morning (very early I might add), we flew to Missouri to see my family. The family dynamic sure has changed with just two teenage girls ruling the house! Below is a pic of the new house in Saddlebrooke.


I love that my parents now live in Branson-- Silver Dollar City and White Water were just around the corner. I am a baby when it comes to roller coaster, so Ev, Alissa and Kailey enjoyed them together!


With mostly girls, we spent time doing girly things like shopping and getting our nails and hair done. I loved it!



We also spent a few nights watching Alissa dominate in volleyball and Kailey showing her skills off at basketball practice.


My grandpa also flew in a few before we left so it was great to spend time with him.


The trip would not have been complete until we saw my dad referee a football game. I am beginning to wonder if he loves being a referee more than he loves me...



Some sad news is that my parents horse, Star, who belonged to my Aunt Sharon, passed away. She was seriously injured while getting her horseshoes on, and was never able to recover. Kailey and my mom were great to Star. From visiting her multiple times a day, including 6 am before school trips to the stable, to being with her the night she passed away, they really have become true cowgirls!


Now we are just living life here in Rexburg. Although my school work load is pretty light, I am spending a lot of my time at I-News as the News Director. It's been great gaining so much valuable experience through I-News. Ev is busy with a heavy schedule- 18 credits of difficult classes. Thankfully he still finds time for intermural flag football, softball and basketball. I love being his little cheerleader. This year us wives even made T-shirts. Pics are sure to come!

Catching up for our fellow bloggers

Well since our blogging was minimal this summer, I thought I would wake up on this beautiful Rexburg Sunday morning and catch up. For those of you who don't know, this summer we were in Portland living here...with...

(As you can see the judges thought this was a 10!)

Overall it was a great summer, probably one of the best C2 has ever had. In case you are unaware "C2" means "Ev and Whit" kind of like the second generation of Carlile's (C1 would be Pammy and Jason, my lovely 'rents). We made great friends this summer, learned a lot about Portland (pro's and con's) and loved getting regular calls from Brad to play golf practically daily and some church ball in there. Special thanks to the Livingston's, Wilson's and the Smith's (Ryk-Daddy and Brooke, who I called and annoyed thousands of times this summer). Without you this summer would have been a bust.
