Child hero at it again

As many of you know March Madness is coming up very soon. As I have done in the past I will be hosting a family bracket. This year there is only two rules, you cannot pick UNC or Duke to win the title, if you do you will be immediatly disqualified.

But still we have to wait another 3 weeks or so until the madness begins. So what better way to start it off, than with my child hero leading the way. Yes, even, Pete Sampras.

Roger Federer and Pete Sampras will go head to head in the NetJets Showdown presented by Men's Vogue at Madison Square Garden on March 10, 2008. This will be the first time the two have ever met in the United States.

And if that still does not do it for you, Isaac and I will be going head to head as well at some point this summer. No matter which match you prefer, try to catch one, if not both.

I-Wil's continued dominance

Isaac is continuing his dominance. Here is bits of today's article on him and the Wildcats.

Wildcats cruise to sixth straight capped by upset
Wilsonville pulls off upset of the season with two-point win over Century last week, then roll over St. Helens
Wilsonville won its sixth consecutive game.

The chants from the student section toward Isaac Wilson started before the opening tip-off in Thursday's 84-47 win over St. Helens.

And why not?

With his classmates chanting his name, the Wilsonville junior ended a stellar week for the Wildcats, coming off a game-winning jumper last Tuesday over previously unbeaten Century in a 54-52 win at home.

“We’re just focusing on what coach wants us to focus on — playing good defense and trying hard every game,” Wilson said.

Against No. 3 Century, which entered the game 18-0 overall and 7-0 in the Northwest Oregon Conference, Wilsonville coach Chris Roche gave his starting point guard the opportunity to win the biggest game of the season in the final seconds.

“We just called an isolation play for me and I just took it left and knocked down the 15-footer,” said Wilson, who converted with five seconds left in the game. “It felt good, it felt great. We wanted to beat them.”

“We’re actually a pretty good team at the end of quarters,” Roche said. “And we work on it a lot. And Isaac, we wanted to get him the ball and isolate him and just let him make the decision. He’s probably the best decision-maker we’ve had maybe ever. He always is unselfish but he’s always willing to take the big shot.”

With Thursday’s win, Wilsonville has now won six games in a row after beginning the league season, 1-2. Since a home loss to Liberty on Jan. 18 - the first time the Falcons defeated Wilsonville in school history in boys basketball - the difference has been the team’s focus on the right things.

“We just started focusing up more and we weren’t focusing as much as we should have been at the start,” Wilson said. “After our Liberty loss, we realized we have to focus on the things that coach wanted us to do. We weren’t taking great shots and we weren’t playing defense.”

In the third, Wilsonville had a season-high 31 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the field (81.8 percent) and 13 of 15 from the free-throw line (86.7 percent).

“Thirty-one points in a quarter, last year we struggles to score that in a game,” Roche said, smiling. “So we have improved but I also know that if we don’t show up, there isn’t a team in our league that can’t beat us so we have to show up and play hard and be zeroed in on the right stuff.”

For the game, the Wildcats shot an impressive 75.6 percent from the field (34 of 45), while limiting the Lions to 42.2 percent (19 of 45).

“We took really good shots tonight and scored 84 points,” he said. “If we had taken more shots that were less quality, we would never have scored 84 points, so sometimes that takes awhile to learn that more shots doesn’t necessarily mean more points.”

Fritzler scored a game-high 26 points to lead five players in double figures for the Wildcats, who saw every player see time on the floor. Reserve Michael MacKelvie added 13 points, Wilson had 11, and Jon Adrian and Wardle each had 10.

Wilsonville (15-5 overall, 7-2 NWOC) sit in second in the conference just one game back of Century (19-1, 8-1) for a share of the league championship with five games remaining.

Way to go I-Wil, we are all cheering for you.

Blast from the Past

Just chillin' here on campus the night before Valentine's Day waiting for my brdie. Slightly depressed because the Blazers are down by 20 pts to the dreaded Mavs. So I was just reviewing some old photo's and decided to post a few for your enjoyment.

1. Ryan's Big Return.
Can't wait for the big Chap daddy to return, especially since we are similar in age and hobbies. I anxiously await to play ball with him, and am still begging for him to come help my flag football team for next fall's season. (Yes we are already preparing). He is a true stud, and frankly ever since I came into the Chapman picture, he left. Sure will be nice to have him back, March 6th is the big day. Watch out Mizzou here he comes.

2. Adam pulling off the blue jacket with khaki's.
Few others, like the man pictured below can pull this off. Adam Wilson is one who does it to perfection. I just want Adam to know I have not bought a new suit or any variation thereof in over a year. I can't pull it off, I dream of the day that I can, but I just don't see that in my near future. Maybe you could give me some encouragement, because I also saw Mitt pull it off nicely. Adam is a true Stallion.

3. Steve.
What more do you really need to say, other than you live too far away (Rhyme intended). I know I will have made it, when I can be on the same city league team as the deep threat himself, Steve Hales. Frankly I would take him any day over Tavernari. Sometimes I when I watch BYU play I think they could beat UNC, other times I think our cousin all stars could beat them. Just feed it inside to our mismatch, Bjork's sky hook over Plaisted all day baby.

Happy V-Day to one and all, from our family to yours.

Special Happy V-Day to my beautiful bride of almost 2 years now!

Do You Need to Make a Trip to the 'Burg?

First Item of business. Blogging seems to take a hit in the winter, myself included am guilty. As I thought about why my blogging has been minimal my thoughts were: I haven't taken one picture in 2008, too much time hanging out and watching b-ball with Whit, work, shoveling snow, too much homework (okay, honestly, no I never had that excuse). The reality is, there are very few things that are more important than blogging. I must give Pearl a shout out for her Pres. Hinckley tribute. And I must say I know we have been minimal on our posts lately, but the lack of comments on Whit's Glenn Beck post was obviously disappointing for her, but for me as well.

Onto my post. Many of you know when I have to teach Sunday school, Priesthood, FHE, etc, etc, I often turn my now famous, "Carlile-opardy." (My version of Jeopardy). Meeting Glenn Beck

Okay, so I really am a big Glenn Beck fan. I watch him pretty much every night. I personally think he should run for President. Yesterday I heard that he was coming to speak to the College Republicans. They did a good job at keeping this on the DL, but when Whitney Lynne Carlile hears Glenn is coming where she is, chances are there is no stopping her. Problem, or what could have been a problem, is you had to have a ticket to attend this.

Long story short, I went before anyone was there. When the President-teacher-whatever big dog you want to call him, asked me if I had my ticket I cooly brushed it off and made some joke about already checking tickets so early. Then, I started talking about who knows what to get him sidetracked over the fact that I did not have a ticket. It worked like a charm... sorry to all of you who now think I am dishonest, I did what I had to do.

After his speech, he quickly went to another room for VIPs only. A lot of people waited around wanting to get a pic with him, but after a while some of them started weeding out. Finally, there were about 15 of us when BYU-I President, Kim Clark, was going to this VIP room. We asked if he could just have Glenn come out for like 3 minutes for photos... sure enough Pres comes out with Glenn. It was great. President Clark really went up in my book after that move.
